Participate in a choice of two opportunities: a free online first aid course focussed on young people in the event of a crash OR a research study called ‘the Feedback trial’.
The first opportunity is for P platers to participate in a free St John Ambulance Learner Driver First Aid course. It can be completed individually online and helps young passengers or drivers in the event of a crash. Duration is approximately 45 minutes.
The second opportunity for P1 drivers to be involved in research that could help to reduce vehicle crashes among novice drivers. Unfortunately, we all know that P plate drivers are overrepresented in crashes, and so this research opportunity is focussing on whether feedback and financial incentives can reduce important indicators of crash risk, like speeding, harsh braking and acceleration and drowsy driving. The research is called the FEEDBACK Trial and is being conducted across Australia in collaboration with The University of Melbourne, Queensland University of Technology, University of Western Australia, and Monash University and supported in Queensland by the Department of Transport and Main Roads. The project is focussing on whether young drivers on their P1 licence show improvements in driving behaviour after receiving personalised driver safety feedback and financial incentives over the course of a 28-week period
