Secondary School’s Drama Festival

Our 2019 ensembles achieved great results at the GCSS Drama Festival. For students who have not performed on a theatre stage, this was an incredible experience. The theatre venues were all professionally run and the environment of friendly competition was such a delight. Congratulations to all students involved.

On Thursday, 8 August our Junior Ensemble, under the direction of Michelle Murtagh, opened the Festival at Southport State High School. We received Highly Commended certificates for ‘The Concept’ and several highly commended certificates for acting.

On Friday, 16 August our Senior Ensemble, written and directed by Year 11 students, Asha Murtagh, Callun Harverson and Theo Lozano, took to the stage and brought down the house with laughter at Somerset College. We won the ‘Best Devised Play Award’, along with a highly commended for the student creators, a magic moment and several acting awards.

Last, but by no means least, on Saturday, 24 August our Intermediate Ensemble, written and directed by Bryce Berrell, with the support of several Year 11 assistant directors, blew the audience away at St Andrew’s Lutheran College. We were Runner Up for ‘Best Play’, along with a highly commended for the Ensemble, two of the assistant directors and several highly commended certificates for acting.
