A huge congratulations goes out to the Year 10 debating team made up of Lina McCoy, Nic Dearlove, Jayde Erglis, and Ryan Salle, as well as their dedicated coach and mentor, Ms Roann Corgat.
These students proudly represented Varsity College at the Gold Coast Debating Grand Final, up against Queensland Health Science Academy.
It was a close debate and they all spoke incredibly well and were wonderful ambassadors for the college. Although they were eventually awarded as runners up, Ryan Salle was named ‘Speaker of the Night’ in their division.
This is a massive coup for our college as the calibre of competition was incredibly high, and for a state school to beat out numerous private schools to reach the grand final of this event is a massive achievement and one we are incredibly proud of.
These students and their coach, Ms Corgat meet weekly in their own time in preparation for the competition. They spend many nights over two terms travelling to schools all over the Gold Coast, public and private, in their dedication to the competition.
We are incredibly proud of their achievement and dedication.
