Our intrepid Year 5 cohort set off on an adventure to the Gold Fields of the 1850’s. Students (and staff!) were enthralled as we panned for gold, evaded bush rangers on the hunt for our lunch, enjoyed delicious damper and competed in tent building competitions.

We loved getting to explore the fictional township with our new chums, complete with businesses, a school, a gaol and plenty more – we even had a chance to barter with business owners to get a better deal on our gold hunting equipment!

Our day culminated with a fast and ferocious “Gold Hunt” game, where students furiously fossicked for golden nuggets and then sold them for the only currency worth having: lollies.

This excursion was a fantastic and enriching experience, designed to complement our current History unit of study on Australia’s Gold Rush.
