Generation Green Fundraise for ‘The Ocean Cleanup’

Yesterday, members from Generation Green, Varsity College’s sustainability club, hosted a barbeque fundraiser to raise awareness and support a non-for-profit organisation known as ‘The Ocean Cleanup.’ Founded in 2013 by 18-year-old Dutch inventor and entrepreneur Boyen Slat, The Ocean Cleanup has been dedicated to removing plastic pollution from our oceans for over ten years. The foundation aims to clean up 90% of floating ocean plastic pollution by 2040, and has already extracted fifteen million kilograms of waste from our oceans as of July 12, 2024.

During lunch, students and teachers sold sausages and soft drinks to raise money for this charity. It was great to see all our hard work go toward such a good cause. The fundraiser went exceptionally well, and just by holding this event, our school was able to successfully raise over $350 to donate. At Generation Green, we’re proud to be able to contribute to The Ocean Cleanup in their continuous, ongoing efforts towards benefitting our oceanic environments and protecting marine life.
