The Education Queensland International (EQI) Global Schools Challenge (GSC) is a virtual challenge held in March 2021 for overseas schools and QLD Government schools to collaborate through online project-based learning and compete against other participating teams.
The EQI Global Schools Challenge focusses on developing globally minded students through active engagement with global issues.
Students explored their skills to communicate, investigate, collaborate and recognise complex differences between cultures and adapt respectfully to engage internationally. At completion students developed the following skills:
• Global leadership – personal commitment and perseverance
• Problem solving – engagement with issues of global significance
• Critical thinking – understanding of ethical choices and actions
• Cross-cultural integration – to work collaboratively internationally
• Global awareness – engagement with issues of global significance
• Responsible global citizen – to work cross culturally
Over 3 Friday sessions, students worked with Nan Kwang on cultural issues that Taiwan faces and how they relate to Australia. The main issue that was identified and became the focus of the presentation was “Racial Discrimination”. Over the 3 sessions the students worked on a project that focused on reducing racial discrimination in Taiwan through education. A topic that linked well with the National Day of Action.
Throughout the interaction with Taiwan, our students learnt about the Taiwan education system, the Taiwanese culture, misconceptions between our two countries and were able to make friends with students across the world.
