Last week, our Year 7 Creative Industries Future Performer students proudly represented our college at Australia’s largest story-dance competition, Wakakirri 2025.
Inspired by the theme “Mind Over Matter: Tales of Inner Strength”, students devised and performed True Spirit, a powerful retelling of Jessica Watson’s inspiring journey. As part of a Project-Based Learning approach, this production was entirely student led, from concept and choreography to budgeting and stage design. Their efforts were recognised with a Certificate of Commendation for strong use of the Wakakirri Motif, as well as a Lead Student Acknowledgment celebrating Camille Doe’s stunning solo live vocals.
Our students have also received the honour and invitation to perform at the Wakakirri Awards night and have also received a state award, as well as a National Award nomination! Needless we saw their hard work pay off after a semester of dedication and creativity, when the curtain closed on a performance filled with pride, teamwork, and achievement!
