Last Friday the Primary Campus celebrated Schools Tree Day. Established in 1996, Planet Ark’s National Tree Day has grown into Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care event.
The program is a call to action for all Australians to get their hands dirty and give back to their community. Each year, thousands of schools participate nationwide in environmental activities that educate individuals about the world around them.
Our Varsity College families were fortunate enough to receive a kind donation of trees to take home to plant, by our local Cr Hermann Vorster. A total of over 1100 native trees were delivered by the Generation Green Team to every class on the Primary campus.
Additionally, class teachers prepared some exciting lessons and art activities to coincide with this special day. Under the shade of trees during lunch breaks, Year 6 Generation Green students read books relating to trees to the younger year students.
