Recently our Year 3 students and staff spent a day out at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
During our Ed Wildlife Workshops, students discovered how different animal species are classified by biologists. It was a chance for students to show off the rich vocabulary learned at school, with words like ‘external & observable features, vertebrate, invertebrate and exoskeleton’ being thrown around by all. When investigating evidence of animals within the park, some students found a range of prints, scratches on trees, scat, and even a decaying bird carcass!
At the free flight bird show, we met Australia’s largest bird of prey in Australia – the Wedge-tailed eagle. It was a thrill to see countless Aussie birds up close, and learn about them as they swooped just millimetres above our heads.
Finally, a huge THANK YOU to the many parent helpers who attended to help make this great day in our calendar possible!
