Lion dancing is a tradition in Chinese culture, usually performed at festivals like Lunar New Year. On Friday of Week 7, two Secondary Campus students trained in martial arts and lion dancing at the Burleigh Mantis Kung Fu Academy volunteered to teach a small group of Grade 6 students the basics of lion dancing.
The students had fun learning the “wake-up”, the choreographed start of the dance. They also learnt how to walk in the lion and work together in the head and tail. And at the end of the dance, the students were taught the proper way to leave a venue, so that the luck brought by the lions stays with the audience.
