Year 8 and 9 AMS Travel to Sea World

Late last term, our Year 8 AMS students explored the frozen world of the Arctic during the Bear Essentials Excursion at Sea World! Students investigated the incredible body systems that help polar bears survive extreme conditions, comparing the biology of bears and humans, and considering the impacts of climate change on vulnerable species.

Through hands-on learning, students discovered how energy is stored, transferred and transformed in living systems, and reflected on ways we can help protect the planet. After completing the program, students had the chance to explore Sea World, braving the rides and exhibits through rain and shine!

Meanwhile, our Year 9 AMS students stepped into the wild world of ecosystems during the Hunger Games Excursion at Sea World! In a race for survival, students built marine food webs, tackled environmental challenges, and discovered the delicate balance needed to sustain life in the ocean — with a spotlight on the plight of sea turtles.

Through an action-packed challenge across the park, students learned about energy flow, habitat loss, and conservation efforts like turtle exclusion devices and marine protected zones. Students filmed their journey, and we’re thrilled to share their video showcasing the teamwork, environmental action, and unforgettable moments from a day full of discovery.
