We’re extremely proud to announce that Class of 2022 graduate, Jake Rodgers is set to make his AFL debut this weekend. Congratulations Jake for this monumental achievement.
Broadbeach Cats and Gold Coast SUNS Academy product Jake Rogers will become the SUNS’ fifth AFL debutant of 2024 this Sunday, in Sydney.
Rogers will be included in Damien Hardwick’s side for Sunday’s Round 6 clash against the Sydney Swans at the SCG, which will be finalised on Friday evening.
The 18-year-old, who was taken with Pick 14 in the 2023 AFL Draft, will join fellow Gold Coasters Jed Walter, Ethan Read, Will Graham and Academy product Sam Clohesy in having earned their debuts so far in 2024.
Rogers is a versatile mid-forward who boasts a clean pair of hands while also having great vision, speed and creativity.
He held the position as SUNS Academy captain in 2023, whilst also starring for the Allies in the National U18 Championships and the AFL Academy squad.
After an injury-interrupted pre-season, Rogers earns his AFL debut following a strong start to 2024 in the VFL.
“Jake has worked incredibly hard to get here and we couldn’t be happier to see him earn the chance to play his first game this weekend,” Hardwick said.
“The most important thing is that he enjoys it, and he’s got 40-odd brothers who are going to help him through the journey as well.”
