Arts in Practice is an applied senior subject in which students analyse and create artworks using two or more art forms. In the creation of artworks, students can utilise any combination of drama, dance, music, media and visual art. Some year 12 Arts in Practice students created the following artworks as their latest assessment task. These were created for a children’s festival and each communicate specific meaning, as indicated in the Artist statements.

For centuries, artists have challenged societal views and expressed this pain through art; in doing so they discovered a way to find a brightness amongst the dark. The purpose of this film is to communicate that life requires a balance of positive and negative… It is a lesson that teens should learn before entering adulthood so as a society we can create a new generation that don’t just sit in the dark times, craving the light but never doing anything about it, rather they accept the dark but strive to create light in the world.

I am very passionate about eliminating single use plastic, and hope to bring the same message to the younger generation. My film was made to get children thinking about their use of plastic and how it can affect the animals if not disposed of properly.
