ASPIRE Football is back and running!!!
After a long break, I must admit it has been fantastic to hear the sound of footballs being kicked again and hearing that ball run down the back of the net when a goal has been scored has never sounded better.
Students have been extremely keen and very enthusiastic towards the sessions; I dare say the excitement of being able to kick a ball again surrounded by your mates has been very motivating for all of those who have attended. Students have been extremely enthusiastic in all of the sessions and we have cashed in on that enthusiasm with the intensity of each session growing.
Now we are focusing on developing each player’s fitness with high intensity small-sided games and breaking out into 11 V 11 games. Students have been working on closing down the nearest player and sometimes this means I have to trust my fellow teammates to pick up players. It has been a good learning curve for many as they have had to trust their teammates and be proactive.
As we move through the year and more restrictions are lifted, the intention is to play some games against other schools who also have football programs. Now we have had three other schools contact us very keen for games, fingers crossed we see this happen. All school competitions have been cancelled and playing against other teams will help us moving forward into 2021.
I am aware that clubs have started back training and each club is at different stages with their re connection with football. I cannot encourage you enough to have your child doing extra sessions whether they are fitness based or skill based, the more touches of a football they have the better off they will be.
