In late 2023, the Varsity Primary ASPIRE Robotics team qualified for the LEGO League regional championships, successfully progressing to the national championships! Winning the breakthrough award at both events.
Recently, four students lead by their coach, mentor and cheerleader Rhonda Mackie ventured to Sydney to compete in the International Event – LEGO League Asia Pacific OPEN Championships.
The event was attended by 53 teams from 25 countries. Across four days our students participated in robot challenges requiring them to code a robot of their design to complete missions interacting with instillations of LEGO technic. The goal being, the completion of as many missions as possible within 2.5 minutes. They also presented an innovation project to a panel of judges and completed a team challenge alongside their alliance partner Turkey, coming a respectable 7th out of 53 teams.
Rhonda was selfless, given of her time went into overdrive in preparation for this International Event. School hours and extra hours in the afternoon expanded to include full days of her holidays, spent guiding and encouraging our students to reach their personal best. Rhonda is love, dedication and perseverance personified! Our students will be forever grateful for the opportunities she has brought into their lives. We are sure as they reflect fondly on their achievements, they will credit her, when as adults, they continue to pursue their passion for all things robotics, coding and STEM!
It is no surprise Rhonda was awarded the Coach & Mentor Award!!
The maturity, knowledge and skills demonstrated by the team are to be applauded. However, the true highlight for all families present was to witness the joy and connection experienced between all of the teams. The way our Varsity students conducted themselves with gracious professionalism, building relationships, helping fellow participants and embodying our Varsity values brings an overwhelming sense of pride.
The future is in safe hands!
