Rowing is the ultimate team sport as the success of the crew rests with each individual. Rowing brings together people of entirely different outlooks and personalities and moulds them into a disciplined, focused and cohesive unit who will enjoy the highs and lows of pursing the physical challenges of the sport. In line with the vision of the College, the Varsity College Rowing Program aims to raise fine young men and women to the status of independent rowers in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 saw a delayed start to our rowing program this year. Yet, throughout this break our strength and conditioning sessions transitioned to an online platform where athletes could remain engaged and active. The beginning of week 6 of Term 2 brought the ease of government restrictions which allowed our rowers to get back on the water, continuing what they love doing under a revised program structure. Our intention is to continue the current training schedule over the school holidays and we are hopeful that the program will get back to its normal training load at the beginning of Term 3.
Our Head Coach and Rowing Coordinator have been in constant communication with the wider rowing fraternity in organising a modified regatta season, which we hope to implement towards the start of August. Additionally, we are now seeking expressions of interest from students wishing to join our fantastic rowing community for the 2021 season – please contact Mr Robbie Andrews in the HPE Department for any further enquires. Our rowing program supports students through their various stages of development and provides fundamental skills to assist with life outside school. We look forward to welcoming you to our team. Together let’s push through these through times and strive to be the best we can be – GO VARSITY VIKINGS!!
