C02 Drag Racing

This semester, Year 9 Engineering students were provided with the opportunity to follow a pathway of engineering and manufacturing disciplines as they explored, developed, analysed, generated, tested and evaluated their own CO2 powered dragsters.

Students applied their knowledge of the laws of motion, in addition to the effects of drag, mass and friction, to design the fastest dragster to travel a 20m track. They accessed real-world technology and soon became proficient in 3D CAD/CAM engineering design software and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation and testing equipment. Congratulations to today’s champion team consisting of Adam Wheldon and Aidan Kong who had the fastest time of 1.154 seconds.
