Today saw our team do a lot of walking – but boy, it was worth it! We started the day Krakow’s UNESCO listed Old Town. The students lit up as they explored the streets as we made our way to Market Square. We had some free time to explore the square, before heading to Wawel Castle. Along the way we stopped at St Mary Magdalene Square, visiting the Church of St Andrew and the Church of St Peter and St Paul. At Wawel Castle, students had some free time to explore the expansive grounds, saw Wawel Cathedral, and of course visited the fire-breathing dragon on the side of the river Vistula. We then walked to Kazimierz, Krakow’s Jewish quarter, for lunch before making our way across the river to visit Schindler’s Factory, explore what was once the Jewish ghetto and took some time to reflect in the Ghetto Heroes Square – a memorial for victims of the Holocaust. We then made our way back to Kazimierz for a traditional Polish meal. There sure were some high step counts today – but Krakow certainly found a place in everyone’s hearts.
