Today we travelled on the TGV (Europe’s fastest train) from Geneva to Paris! There was plenty of excitement to arrive at this beautiful city. After dropping our bags at the hotel, we took a stroll through the streets of Paris, stopping for a picnic style lunch in Jardin de Plantes and a visit to Arenes de Lutece. We walked through the Latin Quarter, and visited the Mémorial des Martyrs de la Déportation (Memorial to the Martyrs of the Deportation), a memorial to those people who were deported from France to Nazi concentration camps during World War II. We then arrived at Notre Dame, still under repair after the 2019 fire which destroyed much of this historic church. The students did some shopping, and visited the famous Shakespeare and Co bookstore, before arriving for dinner at a traditional French restaurant, where some of the boys were brave enough to try escargot! It was a wonderful first day in the city of love.
