Day 8 – Paris city centre

Today was a day the students had long been waiting for. We started the morning with a visit to the Louvre, where students had the chance to view some of the world’s most incredible artworks and artefacts in arguably the world’s most beautiful museum. The former palace and seat of the French monarchy provides a stunning home for artworks including the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, Liberty Leading the People and Winged Victory of Samothace. From there, we made our way through the Jardins des Tuileries which was unfortunately still quite blocked off as the city packs down from the Olympic Games. A short break for lunch, and then the students hit the Champs Elysees for some shopping. We saw the Arc de Triomphe before making our way to the Trocadero for one of Paris’s best views of the Eiffel Tower. Following dinner in the Galeries Lafayette which showcased one of the best food and produce markets we had ever seen, we headed to the long awaited Eiffel Tower ascension. The evening views were everything the students had hoped for, and the sparking lights were just beautiful. This was certainly a bucket list moment for them all.
