Last night we officially launched our Night of Champions evening, a new event concept for 2021!
Held within the walls of Metricon Stadium, Night of Champions trades trophies with a one of a kind experience that only Varsity College can provide. The opportunity to hear from and personally talk with professional sportspeople from a diverse range of disciplines was seized by our highest performing athletes and Sporting Pillar leaders who eagerly engaged and absorbed every minute.
Students will be awarded at the Pillar Excellence Evening in term 4, but this night was about thanks. Thank you for your commitment. Thank you for your determination. Thank you parents for the endless hours of driving! And from the response on the night, this new format was incredibly well received.
Between mingling with sports stars in the relaxed cocktail function style environment, we brought to the stage our special guests.
Round one of on stage interviews saw Nutri Grain Ironman, Joe Collins, GC Titans Coach, Justin Holbrook and retired GC Titan, Anthony Don impart their wisdom on where they started, their journey to professional sport and life beyond the sporting spotlight. They spoke honestly and openly revealing some deep insight and valuable advice for our athletes.
Round two invited to the stage VC Alumni and Olympic swimmer, Kiah Melverton, Rugby 7 Olympian and GC Sun, Madi Levi, Olympic and Varsity Vikings coach, Brett Robinson and Olympian and 2021 Deputy Chef de Mission of the Australian Olympic Team, Ken Wallace. The incredible insight into their personal experiences of the 2021 Tokyo Games was so inspiring and a vivid glimpse into competitive sport at it’s most elite.
Over the course of the evening Paraolympic gold medalist, Curtis McGrath, Olympic Boxer, Harry Garside and VC Alumni and AFLW Carlton player, Charlotte Hammans sent their well wishes, support and guidance to our students via video message.
We could not be more grateful to these eloquently spoken high level sporting greats for giving their time and knowledge to the blossoming sporting future being nurtured at Varsity College.
Being able to thank our students, their families and our sport staff for their commitment, effort, sacrifice and determination in this way was incredibly rewarding and something we can’t wait to do again in 2022!
