A huge congratulations to our Varsity College Vikings teams following an incredible 3-day All Schools Oz Tag Tournament on the Sunshine Coast. With the largest number of team nominations at the event, three venues, and our Year 12 Mixed team competing across eight pool games, it was certainly a tournament to remember!
2026 marks the 11th year of our involvement with our athletes representing the College in style, taking out the unofficial award for best dressed team. With a record six Secondary Campus teams and two Junior Campus teams, our students did themselves, their coaches, and Varsity College incredibly proud!
The Secondary Campus started strongly on Friday, finishing the day with an impressive 15 wins from 17 games!
Tournament Result – 5 out of 6 Secondary teams progressed through to the quarter-finals or semi-finals.
Year 12 Mixed Team – Coach Bree Dowker
Our Year 12 Mixed team had a fantastic tournament, narrowly missing the finals after winning four of their six pool games. They displayed excellent teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship, particularly through late-night matches and challenging cold conditions. Their commitment and attitude throughout the weekend was outstanding!
Year 11 Boys Team – Coaches VC Alumni Mekhi Swain & Jett Casperson
Our Year 11 Boys team were a standout, producing electric plays and showcasing skill, speed, and creativity. They progressed to the semi-finals, where they faced a tough and physical contest, narrowly missing a place in the final. They represented Varsity College with great pride and determination!
Year 11 Girls Team – Coach VC Alumni Tyler Van Herk
Our Year 11 Girls team had an impressive campaign, reaching the semi-finals after losing just one pool game. They demonstrated composure, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament, narrowly missing out on a place in the final after a closely fought match.
Year 9 Boys Team – Coach Parent John Skalij
Our Year 9 Boys brought incredible energy and intensity to the tournament, progressing through to the quarter-finals. Their skill and competitive spirit were on display throughout, with their campaign ending in a thrilling finish after the opposition scored on the buzzer.
Year 9 Girls Team – Coach Parent Dave Cormack
Our Year 9 Girls showed outstanding resilience, particularly with a smaller squad. They embraced the challenge, demonstrating commitment, teamwork, and determination to reach the quarter-finals. They should be extremely proud of their efforts!
Year 8 Girls Team – Coach Steve Gasson
Our Year 8 Girls were exceptional throughout the weekend, remaining undefeated through the pool rounds before narrowly losing their quarter-final by one try. Their skill, confidence, and team spirit were outstanding!
A huge thank you to Tami, Gary, and Lori for their incredible support throughout the weekend. With teams competing across three venues, their organisation, encouragement, and willingness to step in was invaluable. Their contribution helped make this tournament a memorable experience for our students!
A special shoutout to our Primary Campus Year 6 Girls team for winning the tournament undefeated! Our year 6 team also featured Amali Staples, who was rewarded Most Valuable Player of the Tournament!
