MedDent Students visit the Oral Health Services Dental Van

Year 11 MedDent students recently attended an excursion to the Gold Coast Oral Health Services Dental Van while it was located on our Primary campus. The excursion provided students with a valuable opportunity to learn more about oral health services and explore careers in dentistry and healthcare.

During the visit, students spoke with Oral Health Therapist Leanne Evert, who explained her role, career pathway and what working in the dental and oral health field involves. Students then toured the Dental Van, where they were able to see the equipment and layout of a mobile dental clinic and gain insight into how dental services are delivered in the community.

Students also completed an activity where they interpreted dental X-ray images and worked to make diagnoses for patients based on the images they observed. This activity helped students connect the fields of dentistry and medicine and highlighted the important role imaging and diagnosis play in healthcare professions.

The day sparked interest in many students, with everyone providing positive feedback about the excursion and the opportunity to experience a real healthcare environment and speak with professionals in the field.

We would like to thank the Gold Coast Oral Health Services team for their support in providing this opportunity for our students.
