Thursday Nov 5 is a very special day for the Music community.
It is celebration day for Music Count Us In, an initiative of Music Australia.
On this day, students across Australia perform the same song, at the same time. This year’s song is especially poignant, titled ‘You Won’t Bring Us Down’.
This event is now in its 11th year and is such a beautiful initiative, connecting and uniting our country through song.
Normally, we would have headed off with some of our ensembles to Surfers Paradise and the Q1 to perform with other schools from the Gold Coast, but in light of the event being cancelled we thought we would do things a little differently.
Last week The Music Count Us In Choir and Acacia Strings performed the song for a Channel 9 crew who came and filmed the performance. While the song in its entirety was not aired, Varsity College was beautifully represented by the students who participated. Their professionalism, skill level and joyful participation was a credit to them all and Mrs Wilson, Mrs Osborne and Ms Kelly were extremely proud of their efforts and performance.
Today at Varsity, some classes also joined in singing the song during the live-streamed event.
This is also a lovely connection with our Primary Music Teacher, Sue Callaghan, who has not been here this year. This event is very close to her heart as she began the Gold Coast MCUI journey which is now a strong and beautiful tradition here in our South East Region.
