Our MedDent Program Visits GC Oral Health Dental Van

Varsity College’s MedDent students recently participated in an enriching hands-on experience at the Gold Coast Oral Health Dental Van located on our primary campus. The visit provided students with an up-close look at the diverse roles within dental healthcare, offering them insight into what a career in dentistry might look like.

During the session, students spoke with the dental van team about their educational backgrounds, the skills they use daily, and the career pathways available in oral health. They were introduced to the many specialised tools used in dental procedures, such as extraction instruments and anaesthetic syringes, gaining a better understanding of the careful techniques and patient-focused care essential to dental work.

One of the highlights was an investigation into dental radiography, a crucial component of dentistry. Students were presented with various x-rays, each illustrating different dental issues, and were encouraged to make their own diagnoses under the guidance of the professionals. This hands-on exercise helped students explore diagnostic procedures and understand the vital role of radiography in identifying dental conditions.

Varsity College’s MedDent program continues to offer impactful opportunities, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world health careers for students interested in medical or dental fields.
