Week one of term saw both campuses awash with NAIDOC Week Celebrations.
The primary campus embedded Indigenous games into their HPE lessons for the duration of the week with students revelling in the new activities. Classrooms embraced the opportunity to delve deeper into the theme of this year’s NAIDOC Week, ‘Heal Country’, with poignant conversations, music, dance, art and learnings featuring heavily across all grades.
Our NAIDOC themed Music on the Green has unfortunately been postponed due to rain, but we can’t wait to see our performers on stage this Friday.
The secondary campus welcomed Bundjalung Kunjiel, Indigenous dancers and musicians and Kalwun to play and teach traditional games, along with an expo stand run by Gumurrii of Griffith University. Also unveiled was the beautiful artwork produced by year 11 student Max, forming the backdrop to the official Apology, Acknowledgement and Commitment to Indigenous Australians hanging in our administration foyer.
We experienced our students engage in the concepts of ‘Heal Country’ and hope their learnings will follow them into the changes we can all make every day to grow towards unity and fair and equitable resolution.
