STEM Ambassador Conference

Congratulations to the year 9 and 10 students who recently took part in the STEM Ambassador Conference at the Griffith University Innovation Centre.

At this conference groups of 3 to 4 students develop ideas, built, tested and validated them while working with expert speakers, industry mentors, customers and users to take the spark from their mind and turn it in to the beginnings of a launch-able concept. At the completion of this event, each team pitched their ideas to industry leaders in a shark-tank style forum.

Nina Hsiao and her group developed an idea for an Urban Garden Company which took the research about how mental health can be improved by more greenery and added the possibility of including spaces in apartment complexes that will address these issue while making a profit.

Ziad Elgemizy and his group developed an idea for an app called ‘Walk abouts’. This app used real time location and step information to ‘incentify’ the need for activity; where users are able to claim rewards and discount on the amount of walking, riding and public transport they use.

Alex Connor and her group developed the idea for an app called ‘PENTA’, the tag line being ‘today we are divided, tomorrow we will be united – we are PENTA’. This app was developed with the idea of connecting people in the community together – locals helping locals.

Each group performed amazingly, developing networks throughout different schools and allowing cross-collaboration.
