Yesterday, our Secondary Campus were lucky enough to host Helensvale State Highschool for round 1 of the Schools of Excellence AFL Season for 2024.
The day was kicked off by the junior girls who played well in a tight contest against a well rounded Helensvale outfit. Standout performances from Skalij, Gardner, Spence and Adamson in the midfield led us to a 30 point win. Final score Varsity College 68 to Helensvale SHS 38.
The junior girls were followed by the junior boys game. Both teams worked hard all day in a physical contest, which ended in a 31 point margin in favour of the Vikings. There were some elite level of football on exhibit from most of the group, spearheaded by Skinner, Zieger, Edwards and Foat.
The day was wrapped up by the headline act – our senior girls, coming off a few successful years in the QCUP. The girls were dominant from the first bounce through to that last. Leading by 68 points at half time and continuing the dominance in the second half.
It was a great kick off to the 2024 season for the Varsity Vikings!
