Year 7 AMS Students

Throughout this term in Year 7 Science, we have been studying the classification of animals. We learned how to draw diagrams correctly and label them. We also learned how to make a dichotomous key correctly as well as learning how we should perform an experiment. After we had mastered all of that, there was the demonstration by Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary which was called “Wildlife on Wheels”.

This exciting presentation was delivered by Nadia and Tony who brought animals with them from the Sanctuary.

During their intriguing presentation we were greeted with a variety of animals from a variety of Phylum including: amphibia, arthropod, reptilia and birds. They taught us how we can look at the visible differences in an animal and use it as a clue on how to identify what animal it is.

An interesting thing that happened was that the bird which they had brought, a Galah, was very mischievous and kept on sliding down the pole of its perch! After listening to experts in classifying animals, our understanding of classifying animals has increased a lot, especially when you can touch the animals that are right in front of your eyes.

One of the awesome highlights was being able to touch and pat a non-venomous baby python, even though it had 100 teeth!
