Our Year 7 Chinese ASPIRE students took a big step in their Chinese cultural experience late last term – their teacher, Mrs Li, introduced them to the ocarina.
The ocarina is a wind musical instrument which dates back over 10,000 years and has played an important role in the Chinese dance and music culture. The students took home their own ocarina and set out to learn how to play it over the holidays; they were been tasked with a simple song and have access to online tutorials.
Many studies have suggested that there is a direct correlation between language learning and musical ability so we are sure this group of talented Chinese ASPIRE students do us proud.
Watch this space as we keep you up to date in their musical journey.
