Term 3 has seen Year 7 Athlete Development students working hard on their hand-eye/foot-eye & coordination skills.
So far this term students have engaged in golf and badminton and are shortly to undertake yoga and coordination skills challenges.
There is a real focus on improving athlete ability by increasing ability to process information and use it to direct the movement.
Practical lessons have also been used to apply the Sports Psychology unit delivered in theory classes, giving students the opportunity to practice mindset skills including; goal setting, imagery, self-talk, concentration and anxiety management. It is envisaged that upon completion, student athletes will have acquired the necessary toolkit to produce more consistently high performances from a mental skills standpoint.
As you can see by the images, students have adapted well to this form of training and are heavily involved with the understanding that regardless of their sport, psychological skills and coordination are key components to everyone’s training.
Yours in sport,
Mr Goodwin
