Year 9 AMS Investigate Marine Ecosystems at Sea World

Our Year 9 Academic Academy students dived into the fascinating world of marine ecosystems during their excursion to Shark Bay at Sea World!

Students discovered how energy flows through food chains and food webs, exploring different trophic levels and the important roles played by producers, consumers and decomposers. Students also investigated the carbon cycle, uncovering how carbon moves between the atmosphere, ocean and marine organisms through processes such as photosynthesis, respiration and decomposition. They considered how human activities, including unsustainable fishing, can disrupt these delicate ecosystems and discussed ways we can help protect our marine environments for the future.

To top off the experience, students participated in the SharkSmart program, learning valuable skills and strategies to stay safe when enjoying Queensland’s coastal waters!
