Aspire Sport Trials Showcase Outstanding Talent

More than 215 current Year 6 students recently attended our Varsity Aspire Sport Trials, competing for positions within our highly regarded Varsity Aspire Sporting Programs for 2026.

The trials attracted students from across South East Queensland and beyond, with families travelling from Sydney, Northern NSW and throughout the Gold Coast to take part. Students trialled across four specialist programs: Aspire AFL, Aspire Football, Aspire Basketball and the Aspire Athlete Development Program (ADP).

Competition across all programs was exceptionally strong, with the quality of applicants reaching an impressive standard. Throughout the trials, students were assessed across a range of areas including fitness, game play, sporting application, behaviour, effort and coachability.

Successful students will enter the Year 7 curriculum-based Aspire Sport classes, participating in three 70-minute lessons per week that combine high-performance training with specialised classroom learning environments. The Aspire program is designed to develop future champion athletes within their chosen sports while supporting academic success and personal growth.

The continued growth of Aspire Sport at Varsity College reflects the strength and reputation of the program. In recent years, our college has expanded from a single Athlete Development Program class per year level to four Aspire Sport classes per year level. Due to increasing demand, further expansion into additional classes is already being considered in some cohorts.

Varsity College Sport continues to perform at the highest levels of school competition, with Football competing in the Schools Premier League, Basketball in the Schools Premier League competition, and AFL in the QAFL Schools of Excellence competition. We have been crowned state champions and champion school on multiple occasions. The Aspire ADP program also plays a vital role in supporting numerous state and national-level athletes across a wide range of sports.

All programs are led by highly experienced staff, including current South Coast representative officials and leading community coaches, ensuring students receive elite-level coaching and development opportunities.

It is an exciting time to be involved in Varsity College Sport, with the future continuing to look exceptionally bright.

Final class lists will be confirmed by the end of term, with offers to successful students being made during the opening weeks of Term 3!
