Mathematics have been with us since the start of time, with mathematicians developing many of the relationships that we commonly use today. Our Year 9 students are undertaking their first formal problem solving report, drawing on measurement concepts they have learnt in class.
Our problem-solvers in Year 9 are considering how they can use geometric solids to estimate and then verify the volume of their body. How a student approaches this is up to them and it has been great to see the creative solutions some of our students have decided to use.
Some students are measuring themselves in minute detail, whereas, others are drawing outlines of themselves on the ground, taking inspiration from crime scenes or maybe television shows such as CSI. They are having fun in class, interacting with each other, all while learning essential problem-solving skills.
