The development of 21st century skills with digital technology is another Primary School priority. Support for the teaching of coding and robotics skills is provided in the form of specialist lessons delivered by Claire Eckert in the dedicated Digitech room. Students solve challenges in the field of robotics by coding, testing and modifying their programming sequences so that their robot vehicles behave exactly how they need to, in order to avoid obstacles and follow a course.
Skills such as these translate into the wider world not just in robotics, but, also in problem solving in general as students learn to appreciate the demands of a design brief, the need to trial and refine, and explore more efficient ways to complete tasks.
The robots of the not-too-distant future that will build your car, carry out the micro-surgery, complete your grocery shopping, feed your pets, vacuum your house or take you into space may well be programmed by our students of today!
