Science in Practice Students Support Local Wildlife

Our Year 10 Science in Practice students have recently designed and constructed nest boxes to help replace lost tree hollows and support local wildlife.

As part of a conservation project, they researched species impacted by habitat loss, including sugar gliders, microbats, parrots, possums, and kookaburras. Students identified appropriate box dimensions and entrance sizes for each species, then built and sealed the boxes for durability and outdoor use.

This authentic, real-world project enabled students to apply scientific understanding to a genuine environmental issue while contributing to local biodiversity and conservation efforts.
